We've launched the new Mementor, built from the ground up with three goals in mind: lightning-fast loading, accessibility for all, and a structure that makes the site visible in AI search. None of these came by chance. We chose Laravel over WordPress, hand-wrote CSS without a framework, and added text-to-speech to every single post.
In this post, we show you the choices we made, the numbers behind the project, and what you can learn from the process for your own website. We recommend our clients build for speed, accessibility, and AI visibility. So we should show that we follow our own advice.
In short
What You'll Learn in This Post
- Why we built entirely new instead of renovating the old site
- The technology choice: Laravel and a custom publishing system, and why not WordPress this time
- How the site became lightning fast, with LiteSpeed and a Norwegian data center
- What "built for AI search" means in practice, and which measures you can copy
- How text-to-speech makes the content accessible to more people
- The numbers behind the project, and five concrete tips you can use yourself
Why We Built Entirely New
The old site had served us well since 2024, but it was built for a search landscape that no longer exists. Search shifted toward AI answers, and we specialized in AEO as our own field. At that point, tweaking the old site wasn't enough.
If we're going to sell visibility in AI search, our own website has to be the proof. We couldn't recommend that clients structure content for AEO without having done it ourselves, fully. As part of the project, we went through all existing content. 22 blog posts were fact-checked and updated for 2026, a total of 44 language versions in Norwegian and English.

The Technology: Laravel and a Custom Publishing System
We built the new Mementor in Laravel with Blade templates, a custom publishing system, and hand-written CSS without a framework. Every line of code has a job. Nothing is there out of habit.
An honest question is: "But don't you recommend WordPress?" Yes, and we still do. WordPress is the right choice for most businesses because it's easy to manage yourself and has plugins for almost everything. Our own website, however, has special requirements: bilingual content on every page, text-to-speech on every post, a dedicated customer portal, and full control over speed and structure. In that case, a custom-built solution is the right choice.
It's the same advice we give our clients. Choose tools based on need, not habit. We've built the same type of solution for clients before, including Stas Artist, with Laravel, a custom publishing system, and an online store with Vipps and Klarna as payment solutions. See more examples in our project overview, or read more about how we work with development.
The Design: Calm, Readability and Recognition
We chose a new visual direction with a light ivory background, dark navy blue, and red as the signal color. The colors are meant to create calm, not noise.
The typography consists of Fraunces, a serif with character for headings, and Instrument Sans for body text for good on-screen readability. The design goal was calm throughout the entire site: plenty of whitespace, a clear hierarchy, and no elements competing with the content for attention.
One concrete example is the homepage. It guides visitors toward action without carousels, autoplay videos, or other effects that distract. You can read more about the thinking behind this in the principles behind good web design.
The Speed: LiteSpeed on a Norwegian Server
The site runs on a LiteSpeed web server in an ISO 27001-certified data center in Oslo. Short distance to Norwegian visitors means faster loading, and the data stays in Norway.
We took several concrete measures to keep the speed up. Images are in WebP format, CSS is hand-written without heavy frameworks, and we cut unnecessary scripts that would otherwise slow pages down.
The result is a 100/100 PageSpeed score, on both mobile and desktop. For an average visitor, this means the page appears almost instantly, without waiting time or content jumping around while the page finishes loading. Read more about why we chose LiteSpeed and why a Norwegian server gives better results for Norwegian visitors.
Built for AI Search: AEO in Practice
More and more people ask ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews instead of scrolling through search results. We built the entire website to be cited there. This is called AEO, search optimization for AI answers.
Here are the measures we used, concrete enough that you can copy them on your own website:
- Answer first: Every page and every post starts with the answer, not with a warm-up or a long introduction.
- Summary boxes: Make the main points easy to extract for both readers and AI models.
- FAQ with schema: All posts have FAQ sections with FAQPage schema that answer what people actually ask.
- Semantic HTML: Clean headings and structure make the content readable for machines, not just humans.
- Bilingual content: Everything exists in Norwegian and English, since AI models often pull answers from English sources.
- Concrete facts: Numbers, prices, and sources are clearly stated, because that's what AI answers cite.
We measure the effect ourselves using the same tool our clients get access to: an SEO panel with daily data on rankings in Google and AI search, citation analysis, and competitor tracking in AI answers. Read our AEO guide or see what our AEO service includes.
Accessible to Everyone
Every post can be listened to with text-to-speech, made with our own Text-to-Speech solution. It helps people with dyslexia and impaired vision, and anyone who prefers listening over reading.
We also added good color contrast, alt text on images, keyboard navigation, and a structure that works with screen readers. Norwegian websites are legally required to be accessible, and we built the requirements in from the start instead of patching them on afterward. Read more about the requirements for universal design.
The Customer Portal: Order and Track Yourself
The new Mementor has its own customer portal. There, you can order SEO, AEO, and Google Ads packages directly by card, without waiting for a quote.
Prices are listed openly on the service pages, and you can follow the results continuously in the SEO panel with daily updated data. There's no commitment period, everything runs month to month. We believe open prices and open numbers build more trust than a "request a quote" button. See our SEO packages.
The Numbers Behind the Project
- 128 pages built, across Norwegian and English
- 22 blog posts fact-checked and updated for 2026
- 1 month build time from design to launch
- 100/100 PageSpeed score, both mobile and desktop
- 66 TTS audio files produced for text-to-speech
What You Can Learn from the Process
- Start with the structure, not the colors. Content and hierarchy determine both user experience and AI visibility, long before color choices matter.
- Choose tools based on need. WordPress suits most businesses, custom-built suits situations with special requirements, as in our case.
- Make speed a requirement, not a wish. Set a PageSpeed target before you start, not as something you hope for afterward.
- Build accessibility in from day one. It's cheaper than fixing it afterward, and it's legally required for Norwegian websites.
- Write for people who ask questions. Answer first, elaborate afterward, and let each page answer one clear question.
The new Mementor isn't finished, a website never is. But the foundation is laid where search actually happens in 2026. Want a website built on the same principles? Get in touch for a no-obligation chat.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you build the website in Laravel and not WordPress?
Because our own website has special requirements: bilingual content, text-to-speech on all content, a dedicated customer portal, and full control over speed and structure. WordPress is still what we recommend for most clients. Choose tools based on need, not habit.
What does "built for AI search" mean?
It means the content is structured so that services like ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews can easily retrieve and cite it. Answer-first, FAQ with schema, clean headings, and concrete facts are central to this. This is called AEO, and you can read more in our AEO guide.
How fast is the new site?
The site achieves 100/100 in Google PageSpeed on both mobile and desktop. This is due to a LiteSpeed web server in a Norwegian data center, images in WebP format, and code without heavy frameworks.
Is the website designed for universal accessibility?
Yes, that was a requirement from the start of the project. Good contrast, alt text, keyboard navigation, and text-to-speech on all posts ensure that more people can use the site. Norwegian websites aimed at the general public are legally required to be accessible.
Can you build something similar for my business?
Yes. We build everything from WordPress websites to complete solutions with a custom publishing system, like the one we use ourselves. See our web design service or get in touch for a no-obligation quote.
